Kinder aus 105 Schulen in Tansania, Sansibar, Kenia, Südafrika und Lesotho bereiten sich auf den Klimagipfel in Durban vor

In 4 Wochen in Tansania, Sansibar, Kenia, Südafrika und Lesotho empowerten Felix und Freunde mit großartiger Unterstützung zahlreicher Organisatoren und Helfer vor Ort 5.500 Kinder. 5.500 Kinder aus 105 Schulen wurden in insgesamt 20 Akademien und Events zu Botschaftern für Klimagerechtigkeit ausgebildet. Sie nahmen an Akademien in Schulen, Jugendzentren oder Kirchen teil – egal ob in ärmeren oder reicheren Gegenden der Länder bzw. Städte. An unseren Veranstaltungen nahmen zwischen 80 und 1000 Kinder teil, es wurden Symbolbäume gepflanzt oder 1000 Bäume – je nach Wetter und Jahreszeit – und die Kinder entwickelten großartige Pläne für ihre weiteren Aktivitäten um ihre Zukunft in die eigenen Hände zu nehmen – vor und nach COP17 in Durban.

Wir sind begeistert von den vielen motivierten Kindern und Erwachsenen, die wir während unserer Aktivitäten kennengelernt haben und freuen uns sehr mit Euch allen gemeinsam auch weiterhin zusammenzuarbeiten.

Herzlichen Dank an alle freiwilligen Unterstützer und Lehrer, die die Kinder mit großem Einsatz und unermüdlichem Engagement bei der Organisation und Durchführung aller Veranstaltungen vor Ort unterstützt und betreut haben. Es sind sehr viel mehr wunderbare Helfer, als wir an dieser Stelle erwähnen können und wir hoffen sehr niemanden vergessen zu haben. Wir sind von Herzen dankbar für alle Unterstützung in den vergangenen Monaten und die Gastfreundlichkeit, die wir in den vergangenen vier Wochen erleben durften. Ohne unsere Partner vor Ort und im Hintergrund hätten die Kinder ihre Aktivitäten in Tansania, Sansibar, Kenia, Südafrika und Lesotho niemals so erfolgreich starten können.

5.500 children were empowered by Felix and friends with great support of many organizers and volunteers on the ground. Over the course of 4 weeks they visited Tanzania, Zanzibar, Kenya, South Africa and Lesotho and trained 5.500 children from 105 schools as Climate Justice Ambassadors in a total of 20 academies and events. The Academies took place in schools, youth centers and churches – and both in poor and rich areas.  80-1.000 children at a time planted between a few symbol trees and up to 1.000 trees depending on the weather and the season, and the children developed great plans for their further activities and to take their future into their own hands, before and after COP17 in Durban.

We are excited about the many motivated children and adults who we met during our activities and are looking forward to continuing to work together with all of you.

Many thanks to all volunteers and teachers who supported the children with great dedication and tireless commitment in the organization and conduct of all events on-site. There have been so many wonderful helpers – more than we can mention at this point and we hope not to have forgotten anyone. We are very thankful for all the support over the past months and the hospitality that we experienced in the past four weeks. Without our local partners, the children would never have been able to start their activities in Tanzania, Zanzibar, Kenya, Lesotho and South Africa so successfully.

The very last thank you goes to Melanie Landau who literally worked day and night to make this first successful step of Plant-for-the-Planet in Africa a reality.

Ein Höhepunkt der Reise war die Akademie in Maseru, der mit nur 40.000 Einwohnern wohl kleinsten Hauptstadt eines Landes.  Lesotho ist eines der sogenannten „Least economicaly developing countries (LECD-Countries)“, also eines der ärmsten Ländern der Welt.

Die Kinder schlugen dem Kabinett von Lesotho vor, ein Kind mit in die Delegation zu COP17 nach Durban mitzunehmen und für Lesotho sprechen zu lassen. Die Prinzessin, selbst eine der ersten Botschafterinnen für Klimagerechtigkeit ihres Landes, überreichte allen Kindern die Ernennungsurkunde. Der Forstminister von Lesotho  begann seine Rede mit den Worten, er habe seinen Fehler eingesehen, dass er bisher immer auf die Erwachsenen gesetzt habe. Er werde das mit dem heutigen Tag  korrigieren und ab sofort auf die Kinder setzen. Er versprach den Kindern in allen Distrikten Lesothos kostenlose Setzlinge aus allen staatlichen Baumschulen.
Die Königin von Lesotho nannte es eine besondere Ehre, dass Lesotho nun Teil des weltweiten Netzwerks von Plant-for-the-Planet sein zu dürfen. Die Königin versprach den Kindern, sie bei Ihren Anstrengungen zu unterstützen und unterstrich, dass die Erwachsenen die Erde nur von den Kindern geborgt haben und sie an die Kinder zurückgeben müssen.

Zum Abschluss der zweittägigen Akademie mit 500 Kindern aus dem ganzen Land machten die Kinder von Lesotho mit allen Ministern und der Königin “Stop Talking Start Planting”-Bilder, sangen die Nationalhymne von Lesotho und pflanzten mehrere Bäume. Es war ein krönender Abschluss unserer Afrikareise. Danke an alle Menschen, die mitgeholfen haben tausende von Kinder in Afrika zu empowern!

//A real highlight of our trip was the Academy in Maseru. With just 40,000 inhabitants this is probably one of the smallest capitals in any country. Lesotho is one of the so called “Less economically developed countries (LECD-Countries)”, meaning that it is one of the poorest countries in the world.

The children in Lesotho have recommended to the Cabinet that they bring one of the children with them to Durban for the COP17 and allow them to speak on behalf of Lesotho. The Princess, who is herself one of the first Ambassadors for Climate Justice in her country, nominated all other new Climate Justice Ambassadors at this Academy. The Lesotho Minister for Forestry began his own speech by saying that he had now recognised his mistake of always relying purely on the adults. From this day forth he promised to correct this and to start trusting the children. In addition he promised the children from all districts of Lesotho, that they could now have free seedling from all state nurseries.

The Queen of Lesotho said that it was a great honour that Lesotho was now allowed to be part of the world wide network of Plant-for-the-Planet. The Queen promised the children that she would support them in their efforts and she emphasised the point that the adults have only borrowed the world from the children and will have to give it back to them again.

At the end of the two day Academy with 500 children from all regions of Lesotho, the children made “Stop talking. Start Planting.” posters with the Ministers and the Queen, sang the national anthem and planted several trees. This was really was the culmination of our trip to Africa. Thank you to all people, who made it possible to empower so many children in Africa!

Die südafrikanischen Kinder sind bereit für den Besuch der Staats- und Regierungschefs in Durban zwischen dem 28. November und 8. Dezember 2011. Ein Lenkungskreis aus Kindern und Erwachsenen wurde eingesetzt. Die Konferenz wird im ICC stattfinden, das sich direkt neben dem Hilton Hotel im Stadtzentrum befindet. Im Dezember wird in Durban Sommer sein und es können das ganze Jahr über Bäume gepflanzt werden.

//The children in South Africa are now well prepared for the heads of Government to come to Durban between November 28^th and December 8^th 2011. We have set up a steering-committee of children and adults. The conference will take place in the ICC next to the Hilton Hotel in the centre of the city.  In December in Durban it will be summertime and here it is possible to plant trees the whole year around!

In den tausend Hügeln eine Stunde von Durban entfernt fand die wohl coolste Akademie bislang im Indigo Skate Camp statt. In einem traditionellen Rundhaus erklären Flurina und ich warum wir nach Afrika gekommen sind.  Die Ergebnisse der Arbeitsgruppen präsentierten die Skater standesgemäß im  Skate-Pool. Tolle Ergebnisse. Unser Konzept klappt überall. Vorher haben uns viele Südafrikaner gesagt: Das Konzept für die einfachen Kinder auf dem Land müsst Ihr ändern. Wir haben es nicht geändert. Die Skater schenkten mir anschließend ein super-cooles Board von Element mit der Aufschrift: „Power to the Planet“.  In der Half-Pipe führte ein Teil der Jugendlichen für uns einen Zulu-Tanz vor, während die anderen um sie herum skateten. Cool!

// In the remote hills around one hour from Durban in the Indigo Skate Camp, we enjoyed one of the coolest Academies so far. In a traditional roundhouse, Flurina and I explained why we came to Africa. The presentations given by the working groups were presented by the skaters in the skate pool and produced great results! Our concept is working everywhere. Before we left many South Africans recommended that we adapt our concept to better suit the children in the countryside. We decided not to change it. Afterwards the skaters gave me a super cool skateboard with inscription “Power to the Planet”. Part of the group performed a Zulu dance for us in the half pipe, while the others skated around them. Cool!

Heute waren wir wieder im Natural Science Museum in Durban. Hier hatten sich Kinder aus sieben verschiedenen Schulen eingefunden. Einige Schulgruppen machten spontane Aufführungen (VIDEO), was die ohnehin sehr gute Stimmung noch verbesserte. Bei der Präsentation der Ergebnisse des WORLDCAFES stellte eine Gruppe ihr Motto für die Klimakonferenz in Durban vor: PUSH – Planting until something happens!

90 neue Botschafter für Klimagerechtigkeit sind seit heute in Durban unterwegs und kämpfen für ihre Zukunft.

Am Ende der Akademie setzten sich Carlene, Bev, Liz, Siobhan, Tresor und Martin zusammen, die die Kinder in Durban als Erwachsene bei ihren Vorbereitungen für DURBAN COP 17 unterstützen werden.

Wir sind gespannt auf die Pläne und Aktionen der Kinder zwischen dem 28.11 und dem 9.12.2011 bei COP17. Heute haben wir noch das ICC besichtigt, wo der Klimagipfel stattfinden wird.

Today we were back at the Natural Science Museum in Durban. Children from seven different schools came together there. Some of the groups made spontaneous performances (VIDEO), which contributed to improving the already positive atmosphere. In the course of their presentation of the “worldcafe” results, one group presented their brilliant new motto for COP 17 in Durban: PUSH – Planting until something happens!

Durban now has 90 new Climate Justice Ambassadors who are fighting for their future.

At the end of the Academy the following people came together: Carlene, Bev, Liz, Siobhan, Tresor and Martin. These are the adults who will support the children with their preparations for Durban COP 17.

We are both excited and curious to see what initiatives the children have planned between November 28th – December 9th for COP 17. Today we also visited the ICC, where the climate summit will take place.
