20 New Climate Justice Ambassadors Join Our Mission

On April 6th we held an Academy at Teixeira Dias School in Mariana-MG. This Academy was attended by 20 teenagers, part of the 9th grade of elementary school. We started the activity with the presentation of the short film “Abuela Grillo” directed by Israel Hernández, which tells a story told millennially by the Ayoreo people of Bolivia. This story underscores the importance of water and the need for a good relationship with nature. After that, the initial presentation was made by invited ambassadors and they coordinated part of the following activities. In the end, every child received their certificates of Climate Justice Ambassadors, and they were encouraged to put their projects into action, and through what they learned, act to raise awareness among friends and family.

The planting was done, as previously agreed with the students and the school board, in April 13th in an area provided by the city hall. All cribs were already open and the seedlings were donated by a partner. 11 seedlings were planted, because the planting area was not very large. Unfortunately, some of the seedlings were plucked, so we returned 15 days later and all damaged seedlings were replanted, and the wounds received proper care.

No dia 6 de abril realizamos uma Academia na Escola Teixeira Dias, em Mariana-MG. Esta Academia contou com a participação de 20 adolescentes, parte do 9° ano do ensino fundamental. Começamos a atividade com a apresentação do curta-metragem “Abuela Grillo”, dirigido por Israel Hernández, que narra uma história contada milenarmente pelo povo Ayoreo, da Bolívia. Essa história ressalta a importância da água e a necessidade de um bom relacionamento com a natureza. Depois disso, a apresentação de slides inicial foi feita por embaixadoras convidadas, assim como parte da coordenação das atividades seguintes. Ao final, todos eles receberam os seus certificados de Embaixadores da Justiça Climática, foram incentivados a colocar seus projetos em ação, e através do que aprenderam, agir na conscientização de amigos e familiares.

O plantio foi feito, como já combinado anteriormente com os alunos e a direção da escola, no final de semana seguinte (13 de abril), em uma área cedida pela prefeitura da cidade. Todos os berços já estavam abertos e as mudas foram doadas por um parceiro da Plant-for-the-Planet Mariana. Ao todo foram plantadas 11 mudas, uma vez que o espaço não era muito grande. Infelizmente, algumas das mudas plantadas foram arrancadas, por isso voltamos ao local cerca de 15 dias depois, e todas as mudas danificadas foram replantadas, e as feridas receberam os devidos cuidados.
