Plant-for-the-Planet Academy Durban (South Africa), 22 July 2011

Today at 9 o’clock, Franziska started a 9-hour Academy with 149 children from 34 schools in Phoenix / Durban !

Following a presentation about the climate crisis, climate justice and Plant-for-the-Planet we watched the film “The Man who planted trees”, and then planted 4 symbolic trees together. A major planting party is already being planned by more than 100 children here. After lunch those children who had participated in the event organised by Kritisha gave their presentations. You can watch one of those brilliant presentations on climate change here.

After the rhetorical/public speaking training the following question was put forward to the children: What will we do next with your Plant-for-the-Planet Club? The plans included planting numerous trees and ranged from one tree per class each year until the climate summit in Durban, to 5000 trees being planted by each school within the next five years.

This group of students aged between 10 and 14 years were a highly active and enthusiastic group of pupils! Thanks to these students Plant-for-the-Planet is well positioned in Durban for the future. When all the children manage to implement their plans, they will have achieved a lot even before the delegations have arrived in Durban.

A big thank you must go to Kritisha Rajcoomar. Without her this Academy would not have produced such terrific results.
