The renowned hotel group has made 21 commitments to change
production and consumption patterns with the goal of protecting our planet, its people and their environment.
One such initiative is “Plant for the Planet” which shows Accor’s commitment to sustainable development. Guests
are invited to reuse their towels for more than one night so that 50% of the laundry savings can then be used to
fund reforestation projects. In just five years the programme has financed the planting of over 3.5 million trees in
21 countries around the world or 2,000 trees a day! As such, it is a unique initiative in the hotel industry.
This year, 15 Ambassadors from Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra joined the inspirational project by planting 500 trees in
order to prevent costal erosion at Klang Island, Krabi. The day started with a visit to the OTOP long tail boat
museum where an explanation was given on how wood has been used for centuries in order to provide
transportation over water.
