Academy in Ijuí, Brazil

On October 2nd, 2013 about 100 children and youth coming from 7 schools were empowered as Climate Justice Ambassadors in the Southern Brazilian city of Ijuí. The event was organized by Yara Blochtein from Business Professional Women International (BPW) in cooperation with the municipality of Ijuí and the local chapter of BPW. Both the mayor of Ijuí, Mr. Fioravante Ballin and the Environment Secretary Mr. Valmir de Quadros were present during the event and stressed the importance for the younger generation to get actively involved against climate crisis. In the afternoon, “Ipé amarelo” trees (Tabebuia chrysotricha) -the Brazilian national tree- were planted on the “Immigrants’ Square”.
