To celebrate Wangari Maathai day (03.03.2014), Global Children’s Board President, Kehkashan, took up our call to plant trees to honour Wangari Maathai.
Kehkashan and her youth organisation, Green Hope UAE, along with students of the American School and a university of Abu Dhabi planted 500 Ghaf tree seeds, as a pledge to carry on the green movement in her region.
Kehkashan explains why they have planted Ghaf seeds:
Ghaf Trees are often referred to as the national tree of the UAE and for centuries it has been an essential food source, as well as a source of fuel, shelter and medicine. Its planting and proliferation is a key ingredient in reversing land degradation in our region.
