Plant-for-the-Planet
On October 20th, 2012, an Academy was held in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, with 71 children belonging to the “Atis Tirma” group of Catholic Scouts. “Atis Tirma” was the cry shouted by the ancient aboriginals who chose death over being taken prisoner by the Spanish invaders.
Most of the day was devoted to planting 500 trees of species native to the Canary Islands. In the afternoon the participants watched the presentation of the Plant-for-the-Planet initiative and pledged to water the planted trees two or three more times during the first year and to organize further planting actions. They left inspired!
